About Us
Ceramic Studio Petrinja was founded in 2020 by Association GRAK, a non-profit organization. The studio is artistic, but also a social project. We like to use clay as a medium that can reduce the social isolation of vulnerable groups. In addition to developing creativity, clay also has therapeutic properties. It turned out to be very important, especially in the period after we became the epicentre of the destructive earthquake.
We aim to offer the community an open ceramic studio where residents can develop knowledge and skills about contemporary ceramic art based on traditional pottery. Our studio is a place for creative socializing and the exchange of knowledge and experience. We like to say that clay is the glue we use to connect our community, but it connects us internationally.
Our residents will be invited to support our goals related to developing of ceramic art.
We are local activists who empower our community to change. Come and join us!
JOIN US!
Together we can preserve cultural heritage and enjoy the creation of unique artistic ceramics.
Studio services
We organize workshops for participants of the ceramic studio, where we nurture traditional pottery, but also develop knowledge and skills about modern methods of clay modeling and decorating ceramic objects. We also learn how to use ceramic equipment in the studio.
The studio offers free use of equipment, tools, and materials for making ceramics. For users, we have 8 potter’s wheels, 2 ceramic kilns, a clay roller and press, an extruder for clay recycling, table-top turntables, small tools, paints, and glazes.
We are helping in developing the knowledge and skills by users of ceramic studio and creating a stimulating environment for the revitalization of traditional pottery, the development of contemporary art, and entrepreneurial ideas.
Petrinja, the town of pottery
Pottery is the oldest, most widespread, and most well-known craft in Petrinja. In the middle of the 19th century, around 100 potters were active in Petrinja. The city still rests on high- quality clay, and a large STUCKA (traditional clay jar) recalls the history of pottery and greets visitors at the very entrance to the town. Petrinjas tourism is also developing on traditional pottery.
Petrinja is a town of teachers and teachers have had good professors throughout the centuries who taught them how to make and decorate ceramics. For this reason, almost all the big names of Croatian artistic ceramics from the end of the 19th and half of the 20th century have their anchor in Petrinja.
FLIK, the Festival of Pottery and Ceramics, a unique event in Croatia. This year, FLIK will be held on the weekend of the 18th and 19th May. Ceramic studio Petrinja is a co-organizer of the festival.
